I will reschedule my Cross Country attendance to the NCAA regionals in Toledo on November 12th.
Now I will look ahead to something truly glorious: Michigan Football. I will be the first to admit to you that there is no place I would rather be on an autumn Saturday afternoon, than Ann Arbor. There is nothing like combining your voice with 110,000 of your closest friends. You are part of the machine, but it is a machine of heart. It is not quite a religious experience, but it is incredibly emotional. I have been looking forward to this since January.
Now it is time for speculation. I don't make speculation. I will tell you for what I will be looking tomorrow. The general sports fan wants to see if Denard Robinson can get 500 combined yards. The general commentators will see if our notoriously shoddy defense can stop a very talented Alex Carter. The Michigan fans will be looking for one thing: kicking. I think Don Richards would agree that special teams plays are the most volatile plays of the of the game. They can easily give the defense an extra couple of sets of downs to work with, or they put the offense in scoring position much more quickly. However, nothing is as linchpin as a good field-goal kicker. A good field-goal kicker is points in the bag. A bad field goal kicker results in long drives that amount to nothing. We here at Michigan know this all too well. All I can say is that tomorrow if the situation arises, the stadium will collectively hold its breath. If it is good we will erupt like none other. If it is bad we will a lower our heads and silently resign ourselves to another season of disappointment. Well the suspense is getting to me just talking about it, so I will just show up tomorrow to see what happens.
