I have a Michigan Cross Country shirt. I got it on sale when Steve and Berry's went out of business. Only to be replaced with the M Den. (College stores are like bookstores and brewpubs in this town.) People question why I have it because I have never been to a race. Well, tomorrow I rectify that. I love that I am starting my great quest with cross country. It's my personal sport. I started running back in high school. I ran varsity for my high school my senior year. We actually won a trophy. Oddly, I have only run one race since high school, and my time was identical to that of my final race in high school. Anyway, running for me is not a reason to be competitive. (Competition scares the bajeezes out of me.) Running is a time to push myself, a time to become tougher, a time to feel healthy, and a time to just lose myself wherever my legs may take me. I admire running for what it is and not for the competition (Although, I might dot he Big House Big Heart this year.) Anyway, I am really looking forward to watching people who are at the top of their games, so to speak. The Men's team is unranked in the preseason polls. The women's team is ranked 13th nationally. Despite the 90+ degree weather, this ought to be good. I just wish we had more than one meet in the State of Michigan each year.
Everyone has bailed on me, so I guess I will be going alone. My only decision is whether I drive or bike to Dexter. I am leaning towards driving, because it allows me to stay at work a little longer.
Tomorrow, I will post my post-race thoughts as well as my looking forward to the glory that is Michigan Football.
